FYI: The Ronald Reagan Birthplace/Museum and the Tampico Area Historical Society are two seperate organizations and at two different locations. The Tampico Area Historical Society is located 3 doors south of the R. Reagan Birthplace/Museum.

The Ronald Reagan birthplace is located in an APARTMENT upstairs from the 1st National Bank. Enter through the Gift Shop & Museum at 111 S. Main Street.

The Ronald Reagan Birthplace and Museum is open for tours (Free-will donations). See below for the 2008 season's months/days/hours.  Volunteers always welcomed

March, 2008: Open Saturday, 10-4p.m.  & Sunday, 1 - 4p.m.

February 6, 2008 - Annual Reagan Birthday Celebration, 10a-4pm. Birthplace/Museum will be open - 111 S. Main Street, Tampico, IL. Refreshments served at theTampico Historical Society, 119 S. Main Street, Tampico, IL.

April 1 , 2008 -  October 31, 2008 - Open Monday through Saturday, 10a-4p, Sundays, 1p-4p (or by appointment during "off" hours/days). Joan Johnson, Coordinator.

Lloyd J. McElhiney and his wife Amy were our local historians, docents and tour guides for the Ronald Reagan Birthplace & Museum for over a decade. Lloyd passed away on September 19, 2006. It has been a "dream" of Amy and Lloyd's to have a statue of Ronald Reagan, representative of his early years in Tampico,  erected in the Ronald Reagan park. A memorial fund to achieve this goal has been established by TARP (Tampico Area Revitalization Project) through Tampico Banking Center - of Peoples National Bank. Donations may be sent to:

Many folks are familiar with the "Rainbow" postcard, taken on Election Eve by Lloyd McElhiney. It is iinteresting to note that at approximately the same time of day, on the afternoon of Lloyd's burial, another rainbow appeared overhead. I know he is smiling down on us. . . .
