Robert Apple

Robert Apple was born in Sterling January 4, 1917. Owing in the death of his father, the late Frank J. Apple, a veteran of the war with Spain, it became necessary for Mrs. Apple to place her sons in Mooseheart. Here Robert Apple received his education and graduated from the Mooseheart schools in 1934. He worked in Sterling as a barber until he enlistsed in the United States navy in 1937. He was on the U. S. S. Arizona at Pearl Harbor. T. H., and Lost his life when that ship was sunk in the treacherous Japanese attack the morning of December 7, 1941. He was the first Whiteside county boy to give his life for his country.
