Tampico Tornado

March 11, 1899

Daniel FOY was born in Napolt [???] Cattaraugus County, N.Y. July 31st, 1822. Died at his home in Tampico, March 6th, 1899. Aged 76 years, 6 months, 5 days. In 1839 being then 17 years of age, he came to McDonald county, Ill, remaining there 7 years. He was united in marriage to Mathilda WILLIAMS December 1st, 1843. In 1847, he came to Whiteside county and settled in Tampico, being one of the earliest settlers of that town. He has since resided in this place, with the exception of 9 years spent in Kansas and Colorado.

He leaves a wife and nine children, five boys and four girls to mourn their father and all of them were able to attend him during his illness except two daughters living in the west.

The funeral took place at the M.E. church this past Wednesday afternoon March 8th. Rev. O.E. READE officiating and he was laid to rest in the Tampico cemetery.

Daniel Foy, a pioneer of Whiteside county, died at his home near Tampico Monday night of last week, aged seventy-eight years. He was born in New York and moved to Illinois in the early forties, settling in Nauvoo. He moved to Whiteside county a few years later. He was taken ill last fall with a dropsical disease, gradually growing weaker until the final summons came. He leaves a wife, five sons and four daughters, besides a large circle of friends. He was held in high esteem and filled numerous offices of trust during his lifetime, having been a supervisor from Tampico township for a number of years. The funeral services were held at Tampico, Wednesday afternoon.
