NELS  AUGUST  JOHNSON

 

Nels Johnson Rites Sunday

 

Manlius: - Nels August Johnson, 95, Manlius, retired farmer and maintenance man at Manlius schools died Thursday at Colonial Acres Rest Home, Rock Falls.

 

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Manlius. Burial will be in Manlius Cemetery.  No formal visitation will be observed.  However, persons may call at the Howard Johnson Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to the church or to the Manlius Rescue Unit.

 

Nels Johnson was born Sept. 13, 1882 in Fairfield Township, Bureau County, the son of Lewis and Melinda Swanson Johnson.  He married Blanche Stenros in 1911 and she died in 1925.  He married Mary Whetstone May 15, 1926 at Dixon. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had taught a Sunday School class for 37 years.  He had graduated from an engineering school.

 

Survivors include his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Woodin, Polo; two sons, Arthur Champaign and Eldon, Buda, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by one son, Orville, one grandchild, two brothers and six sisters.
