Jennie Grobe

WALNUT – Jennie M. Grobe, 97, of Walnut, formerly of Dixon, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth, Sterling, as a clerk for 10 years.

Jennie was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Memphis, Mo., the daughter of William E. and Josie Mae (Warren) Glover. She married Charles Maurice Grobe on March 20, 1942, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2005. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon.

Survivors include one son, Charles William (Diane) Grobe Sr. of Franklin Grove; one brother-in–law, Forrest (Arlene) Grobe of Dixon; one sister-in-law, Stella Grobe of Dixon; one stepsister-in-law, Ann Williams of Sterling; five grandchildren, Charles (Beth) Grobe Jr. of Rockford, Patricia (Richard) Kohn of Epworth, Iowa, Elizabeth (Leroy Brown) Grobe of Clinton, Iowa, Benjamin (Egle) Grobe of Antioch, and William (Melanie) Grobe of Rockford; 19 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Kevin (Jamie) Wiegand of Franklin Grove and Kari (William) Cooper of Rock Falls; and one stepgranddaughter-in-law, Julie Wiegand of Polo.

She also was preceded in death by one son; one sister; one stepbrother; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Grobe; and one stepgrandson, Keith Wiegand.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Brant Clements, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Nachusa, and Herb Youngren co-officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established.
