MARY  HILGER 

Rites Held For Late Mrs. Mary Hilger Sunday -- Burial Made In Hooppole Cemetery -- Relatives Come From Iowa 

Prophetstown:  - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hilger, 89, who died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Greenwood of Pocahontas, Iowa, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Helm and Helm funeral chapel in this city.   Rev. A. E.Simester of the Methodist church, conducted the rites.  Mrs. Raymond Matthews and Mrs. V. R. Olmstead sang "Rock of Ages," and "Nearer My God to Thee."  Burial was in the Hooppole Cemetery

Casket attendants were:  A. E. Clark, Charles Sandrock, Otis Richards, Peter Benson, Louis Zschiesche and Amos Ott.  The deceased was born on June 24, 1843, near Chicago.  She was married to Fred Hilger of Hooppole on November 24, 1862.  They resided on a farm near Hooppole for 33 years, later moving to Prophetstown, where they lived a number of years.  Mr. Hilger died on November 15, 1924. 

In April, 1925, Mrs. Hilger went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Greenwood of Pocahontas, Iowa, where she has since resided.  Besides her daughter, she leaves five sons, Edward of Hooppole, Charles of Havelock, Iowa, and Samuel Benjamin and George of Prophetstown.  One son, William preceded her in death. 

Those from a distance who attended the services were:  Pocahontas, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Greenwood and son, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs Clinton Greenwood.  Havelock Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Charles hilger.   Polo, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dale and granddaughter.  Haldane, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Apple.  Joliet, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Rogenbach, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rogenbach, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Wandling and Mrs. Sarah Wendling.
