WALNUT – Loren August DeWaele, 86, of 315 Depot St., Walnut, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at Walnut Manor Nursing Home. He was employed by Fink Motors, and most recently by Fisch Motors, Walnut, as a mechanic, for more than 60 years, retiring in 2005.

Mr. DeWaele was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Yorktown, the son of August and Florence (Becker) DeWaele. He married V. Marjorie Johnson on March 10, 1946, at the Christian Church parsonage, Walnut. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry DeWaele and Darell (Brenda) DeWaele, both of Walnut; a daughter, Linda Jeandrevin of Ontario, Calif.; two sisters, Zulma (Babe) Rote and Anna (Herb) Fridge, both of Walnut; two brothers, George DeWaele of Walnut and Robert (Shirley) DeWaele of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Lenore and Ellen DeWaele, both of Walnut; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herbert, Lyman, and Richard DeWaele; a sister, Arlene; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Brian Moore, pastor of First Christian Church of Walnut, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Walnut American Legion Post 179. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Burial will be at a later date at Walnut Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Walnut Fire Department and First Christian Church of Walnut.
