JOHN  JAMES  MASSEY  SR 

John Massey Sr., Of Prophetstown, Dies

Prophetstown: - John Massey Sr., 67, died Monday afternoon at his home here.  He had been ill several weeks in the Jane Lamb Hospital at Clinton, Ia., and returned home Sunday.  The body was removed to the Gardner Funeral home where friends may call.   

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Advent Christian Church with Rev. Leon Bohy officiating. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery.

John James Massey was born Aug. 9, 1887 in Liverpool, England to John and Anna (Hendricks) Massey.  He attended schools in Canada and came to the United States when he was 17.  He married Mary Hole at Dixon on Dec. 23, 1909 and lived in Sterling and nearby communities.  He moved to Prophetstown 10 years ago where he worked as a laborer.  He attended the Advent Christian Church.

Surviving are his widow, three sons, Walter of Fulton; Donald of Amboy; and John Jr. of Morrison; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Poole of Prophetstown; Mrs. Kenneth Glazier of Morrison; and Mrs. Eugene Wilson of Erie; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Connett of Cornell;  Mrs. Grace Elliot of California; and Mrs. Reba Taylor of Elmwood; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
