HOOPPOLE – Stanley L. Verdick, 80, of Hooppole, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant battle with cancer.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Atkinson. The Revs. Jerry Rafalko and Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be at Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Stanley Verdick Memorial Fund.

Stanley was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Prophetstown, the son of Julius and Laura (Egert) Verdick. He was a 1947 graduate of Tampico High School. He was united in marriage to Beverley Callahan in 1950. She preceded him in death in 2003. Later, he was united in marriage to Diane Gradert Vetter in 1978, in Peoria. Stanley was a lifetime farmer in Hooppole and surrounding areas.

He was active in the Hooppole Fire Department and was a trustee for 30 years for the Prophetstown Fire District. Stanley enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas, camping, and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; four daughters and their spouses, Carilee Stout of Geneseo, Lonna and Don Verbeck of Annawan, Vickie and Lavern Baele of Annawan, and Jackie and Scott Rice of Geneseo; one stepdaughter, Susan Stontz of Kewanee; one stepson and his spouse, Dennis and Alice Vetter of Sterling; eight grandchildren, Amy Johnson, Stacey Crowley, Shannon Verbeck, Grant and Dana Baele, and Megan, Joshua, and Brandon Rice; six stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Madalyn; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Forward of Tampico, and Rita Frank of Manlius.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dean.
