Casnovia Herald & Kent City Press, Sparta, Michigan January 27, 1928 - Friday SARAH 'EMILY' (Griffin) GRILL Emily Griffin Grill, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Griffin, was born Jan. 31, 1894, on a farm near Tampico, Ill. At the age of 16, she with her parents moved to Fenton, Ill. Two years later they moved on a farm near Bailey, Michigan. She departed this life, Jan. 18, 1928 at the home of Jim Smith at Bailey, where she was taken after a fatal automobile accident, aged 33 years, 11 months, 18 days. Emily was united in marriage to Wesley Grill of Bailey, July 3, 1914. She was a faithful wife and mother. Those who knew her best, speak only words of praise and admiration. In early youth she was converted and received the rite of baptism. She leaves to mourn the aged father, husband and three children, Bernadine, Vernon and Roy, also Vivian Grill, daughter of Will Grill who has made her home with Emily for the past five years. She leaves four sisters, Mrs. Cora Hunter of Tampico, Ill., Mrs. Edward Conner of Casnovia, Mrs. Otto Burns of Manchester, Ia., Mrs. Carl Gustafson of Alunt, Ill., and one brother, Asa.

 

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom, has recalled,
The boon this love has given
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in Heaven.

The funeral services were held at the North Casnovia Baptist Church on Saturday at 2, conducted by Rev. S. H. Dull of St. Johns, after which interment was made in Seaman Cemetery. The funeral was in charge of the Royal Neighbors and the floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. **********

Casnovia Happenings - pg 2 The funeral of Mrs. George Householder and Mrs. Wesley Grill who were killed at Bailey last week were held from the North Casnovia Church on Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Grill was a sister of Mrs. E. J. Conner of this village. They were fatally injured when they went around a truck parked in their path. Mrs. Household was killed instantly and Mrs. Grill passing away at 1 a.m. without regaining consciousness.

Miss Bernadine Griffin, daughter of Mrs. Wesley Grill, will make her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Conner. M. L. Griffin will remain with his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Conner for an indefinite stay. Mrs. Cora Hunter and M. L. Griffin of Tampico, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gustafson of Walnut, Ill., Mrs. O. A. Burns and daughter Alice Marie of Manchester, Iowa, were guests from Friday until Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Conner, attending the funeral Saturday of Mrs. Wesley Grill.

Bailey Weekly News - pg 3 Mr. and Mrs. Harold Huff of Brookside, Mr. Hunter and Mrs. Burns of Tampico, Ill., M. L. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Gustafson from Iowa, were here for the funeral services of Mrs. Wesley Grill, Saturday, at Seaman Church. Rev. S. H. Dull of St. John's officiated, services were under the auspices of Royal Neighbors. Mrs. Fred Grill is with her son, Wesley Grill at Ravenna for the present.
