Charles "Chuck" Wetzell, 56, of Prophetstown, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Veterans Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Garland Funeral Home, Tampico, with the Rev. Esther Lee, pastor of Tampico United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Chuck was born on Sept. 10, 1954, in Sterling, Ill., the son of Norman and Bette L. Schultz Wetzell. He served in the United States Marines as a corporal for two years. He was a heavy equipment operator, was a member of District 4 and Local 150, and Eshelman Ally Doyl American Legion Post No. 1191 in Hooppole.

He is survived by his mother, Bette Sherman, Tampico; two daughters, Jeri Lynn (James) Bjarko, Queen Creek, Ariz., Amy Jo English, Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Morgan James Bjarko, Queen Creek, Hailee, Boyce and Deric English, Glendale; one brother, Ronald (Cynthia) Wetzell, Minneapolis, Minn.; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; stepfather; one brother, Michael; and one niece, Wendy.

Tampico - Charles “Chuck” Wetzell, age 56, of 198 W. 6th Street Prophetstown, Illinois died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.

Chuck was born on September 10, 1954 in Sterling, Illinois the son of Norman and Bette L. (Schultz) Wetzell. He served in the United States Marines as a Cpl. for two years. He was a heavy equipment operator, was a member of District 4 and Local 150, and Eshelman Ally Doyl American Legion Post #1191 in Hooppole.
