CHARLES E. WEST

Funeral Service Of Late C. E. West Held At Tampico Sunday

Funeral services of the late C. E. West were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15th, at two o'clock at the late residence, Rev. H. C. Brown officiating, and interment made in the Tampico Cemetery.  The services were very brief as a matter of health precaution, consisting of prayer by the pastor and songs by Miss Maude Foy and Mrs. Minnie Love at the home and grave.  A large number of friends of the deceased were present at the cemetery to pay respect to a departed friend.

Charles E. West was born in the state of New York, October 29, 1855, and passed away at Moline, December 13, 1918, aged 61 years, 1 month and 14 days.  He came west to Illinois with his parents when a small child and grew to manhood in this vicinity.  He was united in marriage to Miss Leonie E. Dow, December 28, 1882, since which time they have resided in Tampico where Mr. West was for some years engaged in mercantile business and later in the dray business.  A few years ago he sold out his dray line and engaged in other pursuits, and at the time of his death was enjoying a very good position in Moline.  Mr. West was a man of genial, friendly disposition, of unquestioned honesty, and possessed the friendship of all who knew him.  He was a great lover of children, a familiar sight in years past being the old dray with its driver and a bevy of youngsters who were always sure of a welcome and returned the affection of their big hearted friend, and who will sorely miss his cheery greeting and unfailing good nature.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Leonie West, two sisters, Mrs. R. H. McKenzie of Tampico and Mrs. Zora Lutyens of Aurora.  An older brother, DeWitt, and an elder sister, Mrs. Mary Bryant, having preceded him in death.  The friends of Tampico and vicinity extend their sympathy to his wife and sisters in this loss of husband and brother.
