Lourde Devine, Victim of Auto Accident, Dies - Had Been In Coma Since Hit By Car Near Albany On November 7

Lourde Devine succumbed Thursday morning at 6:50 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Devine, at 502 Avenue C., as the result of a basal skull fracture received Nov. 7, when he was hit by an automobile on Route 80 near his sister's home, south of Albany.  At the time of the accident Mr. Devine was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Richard Burden, where he was cared for 11 days, and he was then brought to the home of his parents in Sterling.

Mr. Devine never regained consciousness after the accident. At times there were strong hopes for his recovery.  However, for the last few days he had been sinking rapidly.  He was born in Deer Grove, Aug. 12, 1907, attended the Deer Grove school and the Tampico High School.  He assisted his father in a hardware store in Deer Grove until the family moved to Sterling in 1935.  He had since been employed at the wire mill.  He was of a bright disposition, well liked by his friends and was interested in all athletics.  The body will be returned to the home from the Forster Funeral Home Thursday night.

Besides the parents there survive the following brothers and sisters.  Edward F. Devine, Sterling; Mrs. Richard Burden, Albany; LeRoy Devine, Hahnaman; John Devine, Peoria; Mrs. Paul Dawson, Rock Falls; Erwin Devine, Sterling; Roland Devine, Sterling; Lloyd Devine, Peoria, and Mrs. John Dawson, Sterling.  A sister, Mrs. John (Ethel) Dawson, preceded him in death in 1920.

Saturday, being a holy day, the body will be taken to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sterling that morning at 10 o'clock where the body will be blessed and the funeral sermon given.  The cortege will then proceed to Tampico where interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery,.

The requiem mass will be said at St. Mary's Church in Sterling Monday morning.
