GEORGE  WILLIAM  DAVEY 

George W. Davey, 86, Dies Saturday;  Rites Are on Wednesday

George William Davey, 86, passed away Saturday at 9:15 p.m. at his late home, 600 Fourteenth Avenue, following ill health for the last year, and one week confined to his bed.  The body was taken to the Wheelock Funeral Home.

 Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the residence, Rev. Charles H. Piper, of the First Open Bible Church, Sterling, officiating.  The committal will be in Memorial Cemetery, Tampico.

 Mr. Davey was born March 2, 1858, in Orleans County, New York, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Davey.  At the age of 21 years he went to Fremont, Neb., and engaged in farming.  In 1886 he married Miss Mary Pollock of Fremont.  After a year's residence on the farm at Columbus, Neb., the couple came to Illinois and farmed, in the vicinity of Rock Falls and Tampico.

 Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Davey, who with their mother survive.  The children are Mrs. G. M. (Lena) Hagey of Pocatello, Idaho;  Mrs. Roy (Eva) Webster of Barracksville, W.Va.;  Miss Rose Davey at home;  and Montgomery Davey of Buffalo, Mont.  There also are left four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  One brother, Alvin Davey, lives at Everett, Wash.; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Fox lives at Grand Rapids, Mich.  Three brothers and three sisters preceded Mr. Davey to death.  He was the oldest of his family.

 Mr. Davey farmed all of his active life, retiring from the farm in 1934, where he lived near Tampico.  After eight years residence in Tampico, he and Mrs. Davey and daughter moved to Rock Falls and had lived in their home, 600 Fourteenth Avenue, for the last two years.
