OBITUARY
EMMONS - in Rock Falls on Sunday, May 14, at 11:30 o'clock, Andrew B. Emmons departed this life, aged sixty-seven years. Mr. Emmons was one ofa family of ten brothers and sisters all of whom lived tomiddle life, and several to old age, the eldest, Mrs. H. Sterling, being now nearly eighty-four years of age, living in Brooklyn, Pa., besides whom there now remain one older and two younger brothers, all living in Whiteside county. Mr. Emmons leaves a wife and three children to mourn the loss of the head of the family.

He was among the earlier residents of Sterling, having settled here about 1847,and in company with his brothers I. B.and L. L., engaged in wagon making. Later he removed to Albany, this county, and from thence to Chicago, where he was a successful commission merchant for many years. He afterward removed to Wisconsin, where some years were spent in mercantile pursuits, and from thence went to Brandtford, Ontario, where he engaged in mercantile business until about three years ago, when he closed out his business there and bought a home in Rock Falls, in which to spend the remainderof his life in retirement, and whence he has now passed to his rest, leaving the earthly home desolate.

Mr. Emmons  was an influential and trusted citizen wherever he resided. He was chosen school director a year ago, and village trustee at the late election, and was postmaster while living at Albany.

He has suffered from rheumatism for some time past, but was not seriously ill until the middle of last week, when pneumonia attacked him quite severely, and on Saturday his case became hopeless. On Sunday morningsymptoms seemed more favorable; but about ten o'clock a collapse set in and in anhour all was over.

The funeral will be held at the family residence, in Rock Fallson Tuesday, next may 16, the family and friends from abroad being expected today.
