Frank C. Vavra

Frank C. Vavra, age 60, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loving family and friends.

A visitation is planned for Wednesday, January 24 from 3-5:00 pm at the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. A Memorial Service will follow.

The only child of Frank and Lilyan Vavra, Frank was born May 1, 1946 in Oak Park, Illinois. He earned his BS degree from Iowa State University in 1969 and an MS from Western Illinois University in 1974. Frank was treasurer and president of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at ISU.

Frank taught elementary school in the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Unit District for 33 years. He was dedicated and devoted to his students; he made learning fun! As importantly, Frank earned the respect of his peers through his advocacy of teachers.

Frank took satisfaction in raising and showing Irish Setters, gardening, and reenacting the Fur Trade Era. Girl Scout activities and volunteerism were important to him. He made friends instantly and was endeared by people from all walks of life.

Frank will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 37 years, Stephanie; daughter Hillary and her husband, Marshall; son Nathan. He is also survived by brother-in-law Lance Berlovich, sisters-in-law Linda Berlovich and Becky Oppenheim, and father-in-law David Berlovich. Frank also leaves cousins and several nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

Special thanks to Dennis and Becky Blevins and Lisa Seaman. A special heartfelt thank you goes to Julia Colby and Marilyn Lewicki, who provided compassionate, loving care to Frank and comfort to his family.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.bosmarenkes.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the Girl Scouts or to Early American Crafters.

Frank Vavra will be most remembered for his warm and caring nature and his infectious laugh. He will be missed not only by his family, but by the many friends and young people he touched.
