Anthony H. Lauff, 77, Lifelong Hahnaman Resident Succumbs

 

Anthony H. Lauff, 77,  lifelong resident of Hahnaman Township, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon, following an illness extending over a period of one year.  He was taken to the hospital Saturday evening from the farm home three miles east of Tampico.  During his illness, he received treatment at Rochester, Minnesota, on two occasions.

 

The body will repose at the Meyer Funeral Home in Sterling until Thursday morning when it will be taken to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tampico where the requiem high mass will be sung at 9:30 o'clock by the Rev. Fr. T. O. Maguire, Mr. Lauff's pastor for a number of years. Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tampico. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Mr. Lauff was born in Hume, September 15, 1875, one of five sons of Jacob and Margaretha Lauff.  He received his education in the schools of that vicinity.  After his marriage to Jenney E. Murphy, they established their home on the farm near Tampico and where she passed away, November 13, 1939. They lived in Sterling for one year in 1918.  Mr. Lauff was a member of the St. Mary's Church and of the Holy Name Society. There were no children.

 

Mr. Lauff is the first of the six brothers to pass away. The five surviving are:  John, Henry and August of Hume, Jacob of Montmorency, and Joseph of Sterling. There are a number of nieces and nephews.
