Mrs. Bertha Elgin Succumbs at Home Late Monday Night - Suffers Paralytic Stroke on Thursday Night Last Week

A paralytic stroke suffered last Thursday night by Mrs. Bertha Gertrude Elgin, widow of John Henry Elgin, caused her death which occurred at the family home, 223 Ave. D., Rock Falls at 10:15 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Elgin was a member of the Rock Falls Methodist Church and was active in the Class Loyal of the Church and her pastor, Rev. Wayne Leighty, will conduct the funeral services.

Bertha Wetzell was born in Frederick County, Maryland, March 9, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Wetzell. The family lived in this vicinity about 40 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Elgin farmed for a number of year near Yorktown, prior to coming to Rock Falls to make their home.  Mr. Elgin passed away seven years ago.

Four daughters: Mrs. Mildred Whittington of Hooppole, Mrs. Violet Riley of Sterling, Mrs. Evelyn Thompson and Mrs. Hilda Clayton of Rock Falls, and one son Lloyd, survives.  A stepdaughter, Mrs. Mamie Galt of Sterling also survives.  One son preceded her in death.
