TAMPICO – Mark G. Newman, 65, of Tampico, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
 
Mark was born May 20, 1947, in Sterling, the son of Ora and Bonnie (Kiner) Newman. He was united in marriage to Susan Thompson on Jan. 25, 1969, in Yorktown. He retired from the Whiteside County Correctional Facility, where he worked as a correctional officer. Mark was an avid outdoorsman.  
He is survived by his wife, Susan Newman of Tampico; three sons, Clinton (Kelley) Walker of Hillsboro, Mark (Deana) Newman of Tampico, and Mathew (Brooke) Newman of Morrison; one daughter, Tya (Michael) Boucher of Rock Falls; 15 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his father, Ora Newman of Tampico; one brother, Marty Newman of Tampico; six sisters, Betty Ellen (Bonnie Miles) Frank of Lyndon, Bridget (Stanley) Loudenberg and Beth (Brian) Sonnenberg, both of Prophetstown, Beda (Larry) Walzer of Sterling, Babette Kennedy-Dean of Winfield, and Betina (Dell) Hummel of Naperville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother.
 
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and the funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Garland Funeral Home in Tampico, with Isaac Newman officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services.
 
A memorial has been established to the Tampico Ambulance and Tampico Fire Department.
