STERLING – Mary J. Wetzell, 85, of Sterling, died Saturday, March 29, 2014b at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Columbia County, Wis., the daughter of John and Violet (Tennyson) Christoffersen. She married Kenneth “Pete” Wetzell on March 14, 1948, in Tampico. He died Feb. 27, 1987.

Mary had been the cook at Christ Lutheran School in Sterling for 15 years before retiring. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed her flowers, visiting casinos, and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Sherry (Ronald) Haynes of Rock Falls, Vicki Fountain of Pekin, and Debbie (Arlyn) Sikkema of Lyndon; one son, Greg (Pam) Wetzell of Prophetstown; one sister, Donna Krueger of Algonquin; one brother, John (Marlene) Christoffersen of Carmel, Ind.; five grandchildren, Nicole Burkett, Rob Fountain, Kim Feary, Tim Wetzell and Laura Wetzell; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harlan Christoffersen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave. in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial will conclude at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
