Stacy Arnett

Stacy Arnett, 93, of Prophetstown, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, Prophetstown. Don Johnston, chaplain of Beacon of Hope Hospice is officiating. Visitation is 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown.

He was born July 25, 1922, in Prophetstown, son of Stacy Sr. and Anna Johnson Arnett. Stacy was educated in the Springhill and Prophetstown grade school and graduated from Erie High School. He then went on to Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill., and graduated with a degree in general studies. He then attended the University of Illinois and returned to the family farm to help his father.

Stacy married Ruth Esslinger June 25, 1946, in Prophetstown. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Stacy farmed for 23 years in the Prophetstown area and then went to work in the Prophetstown Post Office as a clerk, from where he retired.

Stacy was a member of Prophetstown American Legion Post 522 and the Prophetstown Lions Club. Stacy liked to read, watch TV and relax. Stacy liked to watch sports, especially the Cubs. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughter, Jean (Mark) Wallingford, Charles City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Nina Nelms and Virginia Smith; half-sister, Irene Glasser; and a brother, Melvin Arnett.
