Obits > 2016 - Donald W. Krug

PROPHETSTOWN - Donald W. Krug Jr, 71 died on September 15th, 2016 at CGH in Sterling.
Don was born February 27, 1945, in Sterling the son of Donald and Lorraine (Hackbarth) Krug Sr.
Don graduated from S. I.U. in Carbondale, IL with a degree in math and economics. He married Donna Rury in September 1965. She died December 21, 2000. He later married Victoria (Woosley) Duncan on December 26, 2002 in Moline, IL
Don served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War. At the age of 32, Don decided to build a large apartment complex in Rock Falls. He was a good and kind-hearted landlord. Don was known for the compassion he showed to his tenants.
Don was a master builder. He learned carpentry from his strict German father. Don began building houses at the age of 14. He often told us, "back in the 50s, there were no power tools". "We had to hammer every nail by hand when constructing a house."
Don's expertise at construction led him to a career of commercial construction. For almost 25 years, he traveled all over the Midwest and he built many stores, buildings, etc. He built ten restaurants here in the QC.
Don retired from the road in 2009. In retirement his main work was maintaining his apartments. Don was a true animal lover. The hi-lite of his day was returning home to
His two Maltese dogs—Puffy and Marley. They always watched for his big white Truck. They'd run to the garage door and jump into his arms. They never left Dad's side. Don enjoyed walking the dogs by the river every day.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Vicki, two sons, Steven (Sheila) Krug, and Donald Krug III and two sisters—Sharon (Ed) Janssen, sister, Carol (Paul) Shore, and brother, John (Beth) Krug. Don is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces; a brother-in-law Herman Charles Rury and his children of Southern Illinois
Don was preceded by his parents and several siblings – David Krug, Larry Krug, Joni House and Sue Marrer.
