PROPHETSTOWN – James R. “Pudly” Behrens, 92, of Prophetstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at his home.

James was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Manlius Township, the son of Benjamin and Martha (Jensen) Behrens. He married Ila Jean Wright on Aug. 7, 1949, in Walnut. She preceded him in death in February 2006. James farmed in the Walnut and Como areas and was a top-notch Hampshire Hogs breeder. He owned and operated B & B Builders for 45 years. James was an Alabama, Georgetown, and Boston Celtics fan. He loved country music and his horse named “Sweetie.”

Survivors include his son, Denny (Sandy) Behrens of Prophetstown; his daughter, Diane (Art) Oldham of Tampico; one sister, Elaine Martin of Ohio; four grandchildren, Ann (Steve) Coughlen, Randy (Jenny) Behrens, Cody Behrens, and Renee Robinson; and eight great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jimmy Lee Behrens; one grandson, Cory John Oldham; one brother, Clinton Behrens; and one sister, Katie Phillips.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton. McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown is handling arrangements.
