MICHAEL W. HOOGERWERF

Prophetstown, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Mike was born Oct. 1, 1946, in Morrison, to Robert H. and Betty J. (Hardy) Hoogerwerf. He was educated in Prophetstown grade schools and was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. He married Cynthia A. List on Oct. 8, 1977, in Mason City. Mike was employed as a union carpenter by Carpenter’s Local 790 in Rock Falls. Most recently, he was employed by Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Mike was a member of Prophetstown Lodge 293 AF & AM and was a past Worshipful Master and also a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown. Mike enjoyed working with his hands and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; one daughter, Hope (Steven) Hamann of Prophetstown; three sons, Rob (Deb) Hoogerwerf of Allen, Texas; Troy (Valerie) Hoogerwerf of Washington; and Barry (Michelle) Hoogerwerf of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jessica and Dalton; Ryan and Riley; Noah, Logan, and Makenna; and Cade and Avery; two great-grandchildren, Summer and Octavia; two sisters, Diane (Ron) Siebrands of Mason City, Iowa, and Cindy (Larry) Anderson of Rockford; and one brother, Eric Hoogerwerf of North Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Patrick Hoogerwerf.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Prophetstown, with the Rev. Francis Wawryszuk officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.

A memorial has been established by the family.
