Mrs. Viola E. Winkler, age 91, of Prophets Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown, and formerly of Deer Grove, IL, died Saturday evening in Community General Hospital in Sterling. 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Tampico United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet Preus, pastor officiating. Entombment will be in Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum in Sterling, Illinois. Visitation on Monday from 6-9 p.m. in the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. A memorial has been established in her memory to the Tampico Ambulance Association.

She was born on September 5, 1897 Alba Twp., Annawan, Illinois, the daughter of John and Johannah Schildberg Spath. She was united in marriage to Harold Winkler on January 5, 1928 at the home of her parents in Sterling, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1968. She and her husband were engaged in farming during their lifetimes at their farm east of Tampico. She moved to Prophets Good Samaritan Center on July 7, 1988. 

She was an active member of Tampico Methodist Church.

She is survived by one foster son, Victor R. White II of Deer Grove, Illinois; two foster grandsons, Victor R. White III of Milford, Illinois and Jeffrey H. White at home; one brother, Raymond Spath of Prophetstown, Illinois, one sister, Pearl Tilden of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and numberous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mabel Woodworth, and Florence Woodworth, two half brothers, Alfred Spath and Arthur Spath.
