Gary EdgePROPHETSTOWN – Gary E. Edge, 76 of Prophetstown died Friday October 18, 2019 at his home after a short battle with cancer.


He was born on December 14, 1943 in Hazel Green, WI the son of Eldon and Ina (Carr) Edge. He served in the US Navy and had sailed on the USS Poccono that was stationed out of Norfolk, VA. Gary was employed at GE in Morrison for over 30 years before retiring. He married Mary J. Cifers on August 11, 1969. She died December 30, 2010.
They had lived in Prophetstown for 49 years where they raised their two children: Bridget C. Edge of Rock Falls, William "Bill" Edge of Prophetstown and grand daughter Beth Ann (Edge) O'Neal of Prophetstown.
Gary enjoyed camping at Oak Run outside of Galesburg. He loved working on cars, mowers and anything mechanical. He enjoyed friends and family, and was always willing to help others out who needed help. Gary was a good friend to anyone who knew him.
Survivors include his Children Bridget C. Edge, William "Bill" Edge; his three grandchildren: Beth Ann, Amy Jo and Thomas Eugene; 7 great grandchildren; his two sisters Karen (Ray) Duncan of Sterling and Marlene (Gary) Driscoll of Rhinelander, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; his eldest sister Carol Ann in infancy and his brother Rudy Edge.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Tuesday October 22, 2019 from 10 -11 AM at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. The memorial service will follow at 11 AM with Captain Laura Amick, of the Salvation Army officiating.
