The Rev. Ellis B. Beeman, 84, West Burlington, died at 10:55 a.m. Friday (June 3, 2005) at home. He was born May 27, 1921, in Richland County, Wis., the son of Alva N. and Winnie H. (Clark) Beeman. He married Lucille M. Sorenson on April 14, 1946. She died Nov. 22, 1983. He married Mary Charlotte (Wilson) McDonald on July 27, 1985. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Peggy (and Milton) Goodman and Diana (and Michael) Appel, both of Lincoln, Ill., and Lisa (and Dennis) Rivas, West Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Beeman, Boscobel, Wis., and June Beeman, Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Vaughn Beeman, Springfield; nieces and nephews; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Verl and Ellwood Beeman.

He attended elementary schools in Minneapolis and Hollandale, Minn., and a rural school in Richland County, Wis. He graduated from the Richland Center, Wis., High School.

He received a bachelor's degree in ministry from Minnesota Bible College, now called Crossroads College, in Minneapolis. He was ordained to the ministry on July 23, 1944, by the Church of Christ, Richland Center, Wis. He was a student minister at the Lamberton, Minn., Church of Christ, then at Kimball, Minn. He served one year at Black Oak Church of Christ in Gary, Ind. He was minister of the Tampico, Ill., Church of Christ for nearly seven years. He moved to Monmouth, Ill., in April 1957 and served First Christian Church for 32 1/2 years. He served Stockport, Iowa, for four years, retiring in 1994 from ministry after 54 years. He was a member of West Burlington Christian Church. He served in youth camps of MINN-IA-DAK and Pine Haven Christian Assembly in Minnesota, Cedar Lane Assembly in Indiana, Rock River Christian Camp and LaMoine Christian Camp in Illinois. He served on the board of directors for Warren County, Ill., YMCA for several years and served as vice president for two terms.

He served on the executive committee of Monmouth Community Hospital Chaplains Staff and held offices in that organization. He was on the organizing committee when the program was started in the old hospital in Monmouth. He was active in area youth activities, men's fellowships and area ministers meetings. He was an elder in West Burlington Christian Church.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in West Burlington Christian Church, with the Revs. John Griffith and David Behlman officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, where visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Crossroads College or West Burlington Christian Church.
