Ferris J. Shaheen, 82,
of Erie, IL died Monday,
January 14, 2002 at Illini
Hospital, Silvis.
Services were held
Thursday, January 17,
2002 at the Erie Christian
Church, where he was a
member. Burial was in
Erie Cemetery. Memori-
als may be made to th~

Whiteside County Home
Health Care or the Erie
Fire Department.
Mr. Shaheen was born
June 24, 1919, near
Tampico, IL, the son of
Malham and Sadie Saad
Shaheen. He married
Phyllis Spellman April
12, 1948, in Lamed, Kan.
She died April 18, 1990.
He served in the U.S.
Army during World War
II.
He and his brother
founded the Shaheen Gro-
cery, Erie, IL in 1946,
and they operated it as
partners until his
brother's death in 1976.
He then operated the store
until his retirement in
2001.
Ferris was a member of
I the Denton Schreiner
American Legion, Erie,
Erie Masonic Lodge, Mo-
line Consistory where he
was a 32nd degree Ma-
son. He served on the
Erie Fire Department for
many years, was active in
the Erie Little League,
had served on the Erie
School Board and had
served as an elder of the
church. He enjoyed base-
ball, especially the Cubs
and fishing, but he most
of all enjoyed his children
and grandchildren.
Survivors include a
daughter and son-in-law,
Karen and Jim Steele,
Tonica, IL; sons and
daughter-in-law, Robin
Shaheen, Erie, James
Shaheen, Bettendorf and
Mark and Leslie Shaheen,
Erie; six grandchildren;
and sisters, Mealia
Twing, Erie, Nezema

Dorothy Kaleel, Oswego,
IL. He was preceded in
death by a son, Dale,
three brothers and two
sisters.
