TAMPICO TORNADO - July 17, 1897

DROWNED

A very sad accident occurred last ********* ******** ********* ********** nrthwest of Tampico. While Mrs. FRANCE was preparing the evening meal, Lester, the youngest son, about 16 months old, wandered out of her sight for several moments and when he was missed and searched for, was found to have fallen into the tub that was placed under the spout of the pump to catch the drippings and in which there was about 6 inches of water.

He had gone there and seeing a bas-*** in the bottom evidently reached over into the tub to get it, when in some way he fell head-fore-most into the tub, and when picked up by his mother, life was extinct.

The funeral services were held at the residence on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which the body waslaid to rest in the Tampico Cemetery. Rev.. H. A. Hoover officiating. The heart-broken father and mother have the sympathy of the entire community in this hour of sore bereavement.
