Carolyn J. Balagna, age 84, of Saint George, Utah and formerly of Walnut, Illinois died Monday, December 11, 2006 at Kolob Nursing Home in Saint George. Carolyn was born on Februay 28, 1922 in Hamilton Township in Walnut, Illinois, the daughter of Louis E. and Irene (Stockley) Gonigam. She was united in marriage to Aldo J. Balagna on January 27, 1945 in Lee County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2000.

She has worked as a registered nurse in the Walnut area during her lifetime. She and her husband owned and operated Balagna Electric in Walnut for many years. She was a member of the Bryant Club, the Walnut Fire Department Auxillary and the OES. She was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church and a historian of the church for many years and was very active in community activities.

She is survived by two sons, William (Barbara) Balagna of Saint George, Utah, Dr Terry (Mary) Balagna of Forsyth, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis (Jerry) Gonigam of Walnut, Illinois, Gail (Hazel) Gonigam of Amboy, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of the Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HER MEMORY TO THE EDUCATION FUND AND MUSIC FUND AT THE WALNUT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND THE ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION OR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE .
