Agnes Weber

PROPHETSTOWN - Agnes L. Weber, 100, of Prophetstown, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown. She taught in rural schools for a number of years at the former Woodwars Bluff and Portland schools. Agnes and her husband also farmed in the area for 40 years.

Agnes was born July 31, 1906, in Plattsmouth, Neb., the daughter of G.W. "Gus" and Hilda (Hawkinson) Hawkinson. She was a 1924 graduate of Prophetstown High School. She married Clayton H. Weber on Aug. 22, 1928, in Prophetstown. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1988. Agnes was a member of United Methodist Church, Prophetstown, where she taught Sunday School for 10 years; the West Hume Club; and was a 4-H leader for 10 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Verlan) Gabrielson of Pleasanton, Calif., and Carol (Charles) Smith of Glenwood, Iowa; a sister, Alice Buyers of Sterling; six grandchildren, Nikki Linen, Dawn Scarince, Karl Smith, Mark Gabrielson, Paul Gabrielson and Anne Gabrielson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown.

Memorials have been established to Prophetstown United Methodist Church Sunday school, Leon United Methodist Church, Winning Wheels and the Heifer Project.
