Betty Blackert

TAMPICO - Betty J. Blackert, 84, of rural Tampico, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. She farmed with her husband in the Hooppole and Yorktown area for many years.

Mrs. Blackert was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Hooppole, the daughter of Roland S. and Mabel (Hilger) Vetter. She married Dale F. Blackert on July 20, 1941, in Hooppole. He died March 1, 2006. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie (Tom) Peaton of Gilbert, Ariz., and Darla (Sean) Helton of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; a son, Dean (Debra) Blackert of Tampico; a brother, Owen Vetter Prophetstown of Prophetstown; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded by a son, Barry Blackert.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. Burial is at Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown.

A memorial has been established to the Arthritis Foundation.
