David Cain, Teacher In Washington School, Dies; Rites To Be Wednesday
 
David Eli Cain, 52, 1210 15th Ave., Sterling, Sixth grade teacher in the Washington Elementary School, died Sunday evening in the Community General Hospital following a heart attack.
 
The body was taken to the Schmitt Funeral Chapel in Tampico where friends may call after 7 p.m. this evening until noon on Wednesday.  It will be brought to the First Methodist Church in Sterling at noon Wednesday to lie in state until the hour of services.
 
Funeral services will be conducted in the First Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Ridell Kelsey, pastor of the church, officiating.  Burial will be in Tampico Memorial Cemetery.
 
A memorial has been established with funds to be given to the heart fund.
 
Mr. Cain was born Sept. 10, 1908, the son of H.E. and Ada Furry Cain.  He attended the Tampico grade and high schools and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1931.  He did post-graduate work at both the University of Illinois and the University of Colorado.
 
He married Kathryn Deets of Coleta on Aug. 1, 1956.  He had spent his entire lifetime in Tampico until five years ago when he moved to Sterling to reside.  He taught the Sixth grade in the Washington Elementary School for the past four years.
 
He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Sterling; BPOE of Sterling; and was a member of honor of the National Education Fraternity.
 
He served for some time as chief of the Tampico Fire Department.
 
Survivors are his widow, one stepson, Lyle Deets, serving with the Armed Forces in the Panama Canal Zone;  one granddaughter; one sister, Miss Dorothy Cain, Tampico; and three brothers, Fred, James E., and George, all of Tampico.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

DAVID E. CAIN DIED SUDDENLY

This community was deeply shocked to hear of the death of David E. Cain of 1210 13th Ave., Sterling, a resident of Tampico until about five years ago. Mr. Cain had been in poor health for several years, had been hospitalized earlier in the year and had returned to the CG hospital, Sterling, the middle of last week where he passed away Sunday evening from a heart attack. He was 52 years old.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at the Fist Methodist church, Sterling, with Rev. Ridell Kelsey officiating.

The soloist, Joseph Wilson, was accompanied by Mrs. Sharon Barlow at the organ.

The floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Clarence Capp of Sterling, Mrs. Paul Nicely, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burke.

Burial was in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery with Burdette Wood of Sterling, Edward Fullerton of Prophetstown, Charles Aldrich, Wesley Broers, Harold Carlson and LeRoy Kelly of Tampico serving as pallbearers.

David E. Cain, son of H. E. And Ada Cain, was born Sept. 10, 1908 in Tampico. He attended the Tampico grade and high schools and was graduated from the University of Illinois in 1931. He took post=graduate work at the University of Illinois and the University of Colorado.

He had been associated with his father and later with his brothers in Cain's Rexall Drug Store  in Tampico for some years; had been employed at Fenn's Drug Store in Prophetstown; and had taught in the Tampico and Deer Grove grade schools.

He married Kathryn Deets at Coleta on Aug. 1, 1954. They had made their home in Sterling for the past five years and for the last four years he had taught 5th grade in the Washington elementary school there.

He was a member of the First Methodist church of Sterling, the BPOE of Sterling, member of Honor of National Education Fraternity, was a member of the Tampico Fire Department for several years and served as chief for a time.

He leaves his widow; one step=son, Lyle Deets, in the U. S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone; one granddaughter, Sheila Deets; one sister, Dorothy and three brothers, Fred, James E. and George, all of Tampico.

His parents preceded him in death.
