OBITUARY

Barbara (Joan) Carlson, age 68, of 301 W. 6th Street, Prophetstown, Illinois, formerly of Tampico, died Friday afternoon, March 27, 1998 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois.

Funeral prayer services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 31, at 10 a.m. in the Garland funeral Home in Tampico followed by  mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. May's Catholic Church in Tampico, with Rev. Dan Peters officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tampico. Visitation will be on Monday, March 30 from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.  A memorial has been established i her memory.

Joan was born on March 18, 1930 in Deer Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Blackburn Callahan. She was employed at Harper-Wyman in Sterling, Illinois, Sterling Multi-Products in Prophetstown, Illinois, and Arnie's Happy Spot in Deer Grove, Illinois during her lifetime. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Tampico and the Altar and Rosary Society at the church.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Roger (Sheila) Schipper of Morrison, Illinois, Mrs. Richard (Beth) Ballard of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Michael (Barb) Sage of Prophetstown, Illinois, Robyn Gilman of Deer Grove, Illinois, and Karen Heyvaert of Prophetstown, Illinois, nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Rita) VanDeVelde of Sterling, Illinois, and Beverly Jane Verdick of Annawan, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
