Richard HARMS

Richard John Harms, 83, 201 Market St. Tampico, died Tuesday afternoon in the Sterling Care Center in Sterling.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Allen-Schmitt-Garland Funeral Chapel in Tampico with Rev. George David, pastor of the Tampico United Methodist Church  and Rev. Hollis Wharton, retired pastor, officiating with burial in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Harms was born May 31, 1896 in Harrisburg, the son of Harm and Anna Dirks Harms. He was united in marriage to Mamie Larson on May 31, 1917. She preceded him in death.

He had farmed his entire life mostly in the Tampico area and Bureau County, retiring 45 years ago.

He was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church, the Tampico Masonic Lodge 655 AF and AM, the Moline Consistory and Tebala Shrine of Rockford.

He is survived by three sons, Wayne of Tampico, Clifford of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Gilley of Rock Falls and Mrs. Lloyd (Louise) Newlon of Sterling.

He was preceded by his parents, his wife, one brother, Bud and three sisters, Ella Harms, Minnie Schultz and Grace Whetstone.
