J. S. ELDRIDGE, Neoponset, was born June 21, 1833, in Canaan, Me. His parents, Wintrhrop and Dorcas (Adams) Eldridge, were natives of Maine, where the former was born March, 1801, and yet resides. The latter was boron in 1806, and died there in 1854. She was the mother of eight children, of whom five are now living, viz.: Joseph G., our subject; Mrs. Irene L. Marriot, a resident of Lamoille; Roselthe, Mrs. Phoebe Tibbets, and James H. Our subject was educated in Skowhegan, Me. He settled in Sheffield, Bureau County, Ill., November 9, 1855, and there worked one year for Adam and Hale. The same year he bought 160acres of land where he now resides, but did not improve it till 1858 nor settle on it until 1860. Between the years 1858 and 1860 he was in the lumber business, in Wisconsin. Mr. Eldridge was joined in marriage in Princeton, o Mary Bowen, born October 19, 1841, in Yorkshire, England. Her parents were George and Sarah (Moocroft) Bowen. She is the mother of six children, viz.: George, Jennie, Roselthe, Harriet, Josephine, Mary and Trew. Mr. Eldridge is a member of the A.F. & A.M. fraternity, Kewanee Chapter, K. T. Politically he has so far been identified with the Republican party.
