The Tampico Area Historical Society held a Mexican Train Dominoes fund raiser on April 30, 2011. Local merchants donated generous gifts & gift certificates for the event. There were enough door prizes for everyone in attendance. Between games, guests noshed on home-made goodies provided by the TAHS members. Special gifts, such as an elegant wine basket, donated by Kick Back Saloon, were raffled off.  The 1st place winner for lowest score was Sue K. Hondley of Sterling. Sue said she will certainly enjoy the $25 gift certificate for Candle Light Restaurant, donated by Sandrock Insurance.

Everyone seemed to have a good time and there was talk of having this event on a more regular basis.

The Tampico Area Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization. It is not subsidized and it relies completely on membership dues, donations & fund raisers to sustain. The Historical Building is located at 119 Main Street and is a two-story facility. Both floors offer displays that give glimpses back into Tampico's rich history. The 2nd floor also offers a Family History Library & Research center. There is wi-fi available, plat maps, funeral logs, Tampico Tornado Newspapers (pub. 1876-1966), family history files and other tools to help you explore your family history. Members enjoy access to Ancestry.com while on-site at the Historical Bldg. It is open by chance or by appointment. If you are in the area, you can stop in at the Reagan Birthplace & Museum and take a tour. If they have enough volunteers available, they may be able to give you a tour of the Historical Society as well.

It will be a busy day on Mother's Day - two "traveling museums" will be on display. The Ronald Reagan Trails display & the County Historical Museum Display. The historical society will also be serving refreshments after the video on Ronald Reagan's visit to Tampico, shown at the Church of Christ, where he and his mother, Nelle attended church. Contact: Joan Johnson, 815=622-8705 or reaganbirthpalce@thewisp.net if you have questions or need to schedule tours. [A6 ECHO,Tuesday,May 3, 2011]
