I'm looking for information on Tracey Law. He was born in Ringgold, Washington Co., Maryland ABT. 1866. In the 1870 and 1880 Maryland censuses his name appears as Trasy or Frasy. There is no other trace of him until he is listed as Tracey in his brother David's 1933 obituary. The obituary reported Tracey Law as residing in Tampico, Ill. I'm trying to find additional information, such as death, burial, marrige, descendants. You can contact me at mikelaw@iname.com Thanks.

Mike, I found Tracy Law & family in the 1920 Census for Tampico. Also a picture of Tracy Law (senior in HS) and a reference to the Law Bros. in our Tampico Centennial Year Book. I'm going to try to email it to you directly. Hey! Better late than never, huh?

Denise

I was informed a few days ago that Tracy Law ran a restaurant just two doors down from the bank on the corner. Can this be verified?

Possibly. We are in communication with Richard Law and I am pretty sure he is connected to Tracy. Let me see if I can find a contact for him. I'm pretty sure he does not do computers and he lives in another state. I'll check on it when I get over to the Historical Society.

You could contact the County Clerk's office in Morrison as well, IF you know the name of the Restaurant. They can search it by name. Or, I can check it in the Recorder's office. We are doing a Building History on all of the buildings on Main St. It's a very long, time-consuming process though. I don't know if you can all and have them look it up. I can look it up on one of my visits to Morrison, but have two other requests pending and it can sometimes be time consuming - and sometimes its not! (smile)

Merlyn,
The Gazette ran an article on Tracy purchasing a cafe:
Law, Tracy buys Victory Cafe 27 Feb 1947;11;2

My notes from our research on buildings on Main St. show transactions on lot's 8 & 9 (currently the Tampico Historical Society & the Tampico Library) as follows:
Apr. 9, 1945 - Sadie Harrison Warranty Deed to Tracy Law, lot 9 (Historical Society)

Feb., 1949, Grace McCreedy WD to Tracy Law, 8 & 9 1/2 on division wall (Historical Soc. & Library share common wall)

March 7, 1950 - Tracy & Agnes Law, WD Harry C. & Cecilia E Hurd, 8 & 9

June, 1950 - Agnes & Esther Law AFF, lots 8 & 9 (Library & Historical Society - can't remember what type of transaction "AFF" is)

That's the only information I have on it right now. So, Tracy's Restaurant, Victory Cafe, (also once called Vera's & I think Cooks), is where the Tampico Library is now. That is 117 Main St. The First Nat'l Bank (below Birthplace Apt.)is 111 Main St., east side of street.

I received the following information from Connie Essig (she lived in Tampico):
"Hi Denise--- ... Anyway, yes I remember the restaurant that was run by the Laws. They lived in the apartment above the restaurant. They had a son, Junior Law, and a daughter whose name I can't remember right now. Junior was the drum major and led the High School band at football games and parades. There should be a picture of him in the yearbook around 1954 give or take a year."
