MORRISON – Mary Swanson, 88 of Morrison died Wednesday August 3, 2016 at Resthave Home in Morrison.
Mary was born on May 7, 1928 in Erie, the daughter of George and Cecelia (Kennedy) Smith and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She married LeRoy Swanson on February 28, 1947 in Des Moines, IA. He died March 29, 2007. Mary was employed at the former General Electric Plant in Morrison retiring as an inspector after 25 years of service in 1988. She was a member of the GEM club; The Stephen Ministry (visiting shut-ins) and had volunteered with Golden Meals as well as with Project V.I.T.A.L. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Margie (Normand) Simard of Rock Falls and Janie (Ty) Simmons of Aurora, IL; three sons: Loren (Margaret) Swanson of E. Peoria, IL, Kenneth (Sharon) Swanson of Morrison and Timothy (Lourdes) Swanson of Carrollton, TX; two brothers: Charles (Gloria) Smith of Clinton, IA and Harry (Rosalie) Smith of Lake Havasu City, AZ; 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Eleanor Nice, of Morrison; a brother in law, Donald (Doris) Swanson of Shannon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister; a brother and a grandchild.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, August 6 from 9-11 AM at Morrison United Methodist Church. Memorial services will follow at 11 AM at the church with Reverend Ryan Sutton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Morrison United Methodist Church or Resthave Nursing Home in her memory. Arrangements are through McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory.
