MILDRED  L.  (Peterson)  SMITH

 

Tampico: - Mildred L. Smith, 69, of 207 E. Market St., Tampico, died Thursday afternoon in the Morrison Community Skilled Nursing Facility.

 

Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with Rev. Dennis Morales, pastor of the Tampico United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

A memorial has been established in her memory to the Tampico United Methodist Church.

 

Mrs. Smith was born on March 2, 1917 in Tampico, the daughter of Oscar and Hilma (Lundquist) Peterson. She was united in marriage to Clayton J. Smith on March 2, 1946, in Tampico. He preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1978. She was employed for 43 years as a clerk in the Tampico Post Office, retiring in June of 1985.  She was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church, the Martha Circle and United Methodist Women of the church, a charter member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club of Tampico, Royal Neighbors of Tampico, the Moose Auxiliary of Sterling and the Tampico Ambulance Advisory Board.

 

She is survived by two brothers, Virgil Peterson of Tampico, and Vernon Peterson of Prophetstown and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
