Catherine H. DeSplinter

STERLING – Catherine H. DeSplinter, 89, of Sterling, formerly of Tampico, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at her home. She was surrounded by her family and caregivers in her final hours.

Catherine was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Atkinson, the daughter of Alphonse “Ben” and Emma (Minnaert) Dupre. She was united in marriage to Ryburn M. DeSplinter on June 28, 1941, in Atkinson. He preceded her in death March 9, 2003.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampico. She worked for 21 years at Sterling Steel Ball; was a homemaker; and farmed with her husband in rural Tampico.

Surviving are three daughters, Bonnie (Bill) Fry of Utica, Cindy Herman of Conifer, Colo., and Kris (Greg) Anders of Peoria; daughter-in-law, Rhonda of Annawan; sister, Marge DeMay of Geneseo; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Little of Geneseo and Millie (Neil) Carr of Walnut; brother-in-law, Jim DeSplinter of Geneseo; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Ken, of Annawan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 6:45 p.m., Friday at Garland Funeral Home in Tampico, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampico. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Monsignor Thomas Dzielak officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Tampico.

A memorial has been established in her name to St. Mary Church.
