I have an original postcard photograph of “Verna Mary Forward, age 4 yrs., & Albert Louis Forward, age 4 mo., 15 days”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1909-1910.

I found the children in the 1920 census for Tampico (Whiteside Co.) IL, as children of Clair Forward, age 38, and wife Ethel Forward, age 39. Verna was age 11, Albert was age 7, and there was a younger brother, Dean, age 4.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Verna or Albert Forward.

Dear Marge; etal

I noticed this message this morning, and kind of went on my merry little way that someone in the Tampico area Forward family will get back to you. Yes, these people are in my family file, but to find the connection I have to go back a generation, to Clarence's uncle, William Forward, or Ethel's great uncle William Forward. Not a very close connection but ones there.

Question, does this picture have anything to do with the subject of "Fort"?

The Forward family file that I have brings up a couple of date questions in reference to TMC dates.

1. For Clarence (Clare) I have 14 Aug 1881 and the cemetery date is 1880. His death date I have is 9 Oct. 1936.

2. Ethel C., I have 17 Nov 1890 and the cemetery is 1880.

3. Marian Forward, (First wife of George Jr.) I have born 1834 and the cemetery date is 1836.

Any opinions?

Jack,
1. For Clarence (Clare) I have 14 Aug 1881 and the cemetery date is 1880. His death date I have is 9 Oct. 1936.
The information from the funeral log is as follows: FORWARD Clarence (Clare), *Aug. 14, 1880 - Oct. 9, 1936, *56y 1m 26d F-58, Parents: *Louis Forward (NY), Stella Sabbins (IL) --, COD: *Ruptured Bladder - Cancer, *Info from Funeral Log, (Place of birth)*b. HIllsdale, IL

2. Ethel C., I have 17 Nov 1890 and the cemetery is 1880.
The information in our Funeral Log is as follows: FORWARD Ethel C. *11/17/1880-Jan 3, 1971 *90y F-58 -- -- -- *Source: Funeral Log *Informant: Mrs. Vera Retzlaff (daughter of Clare & Ethel), Rockford, IL

3. Marian Forward, (First wife of George Jr.) I have born 1834 and the cemetery date is 1836. The information posted on George comes from his biography in the Tampico Centennial Yearbook, page 101. It is probably gleened from one of the Whiteside Co. History books.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thanks Denise,

Three corrections on my dates are made and sourced.

I added George's biography to his note file 13 Feb. 2001, that I found on a trip to the Genealogy room at the Odel Library, Morrison. Fourth paragraph says she (Marion) died Whiteside 1867 at age 30 years, so give or take some months, I'm betting the year 1836 is very correct.

Thanks again,
Jack

Good! That is the same bio that I mentioned in the Centennial Year Book and that is linked to from the TMC index for George.

Hello, Jack and Denise ... Sorry to be late in responding to your concerns.

Jack, as I am looking at this photo card, I see no mention of the word "Fort". Sorry, I do not know to what this might refer.

My only wish is to get this grand original old photo back in the hands of family members, and assistance from the two of you is surely welcomed. I understand, Jack, that you feel you may not be closely enough related to the family to wish to have the original. I am a retired church secretary with a hobby of rescuing original old photos from antique shops, and then I do census research to have accurate facts to use in the postings I make to genealogy surname boards. I leave my name and email address, in hopes of finding someone who will want the original photo, for only my costs. In return for this photo, I would ask what I paid for it at the shop in Sandwich, IL (in May, 2006), the cost of IL state sales tax, the cost of a sturdy photomailer to get it safely to the recipient, and the cost of postage. This is just a hobby, and I wish I were independently wealthy so that I could just send the photos free to family, but that is not the case.

I understand your wish, Denise, to have a scan of the photo for your records at the Historical Society, and as my end result is to get the original back to family, I am happy to send the scan this afternoon ... hoping that by doing so, we can find someone who will want the original.

I am margerice@prodigy.net, and look forward to emails regarding the photo.
